The slowdown of the internet in Pakistan was witnessed over the weekend, but there were several reasons behind it. One major reason for the same has been attributed to the overloading of the system, whereby users reported disturbances in all parts of the country-from Islamabad to Rawalpindi, Karachi, and Lahore.
The country has also been facing reduced bandwidth due to the upgrading process underway on the Web Management System-known to people as the internet firewall. This will soon be able to handle up to 9 terabytes of internet traffic.
Moreover, with rising political tensions as PTI activists moved toward Islamabad, the various mobile data and internet services remained suspended, especially in Rawalpindi and Islamabad. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority on Wednesday confirmed that these suspensions have been made at the request of the agencies, who are worried over the serious threats to security.
However, the PTA refused to suspend similar services in other important cities at the request of the Punjab government, saying there was no equivalent threat to security there.
