Quad Leaders’ Summit
The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, will participate in a three-day official visit to the United States from September 21 to 24, 2024. The two major international events he will undertake during the visit include the Quad Leaders’ Summit and ‘Summit of the Future’ set to take place during the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
This time, the Quad Leaders’
Summit is going to be the fourth under the hosting of US President Joe Biden in Wilmington, Delaware. This summit is very important on many counts. For one, it will not only be an occasion to review the progress of the Quad during the past year but also chart out its agenda for the coming year. The Quad group comprises Australia, India, Japan, and the United States-all aiming to strengthen relationships and address the developmental needs of the Indo-Pacific region.
This year’s summit of the Quad is also seeing farewells. US President Joe Biden is not going for a second term, and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida has decided not to stay. Those two are attending their last Quad meeting.
India, according to the statement given by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), has confirmed that it accepts the US’s request to host the 2024 Quad meeting, thereby announcing the next Quad Summit in 2025.
Prime Minister Modi
Will also speak at the ‘Summit of the Future’ at the United Nations General Assembly on September 23, 2024. This year’s summit theme is ‘Multilateral Solutions for a Better Tomorrow’. It will focus on collaborations tackling challenges for humanity in general rather than individual nations. During the course of the summit, PM Modi will hold numerous bilaterals with world leaders on pressing mutual issues.
While on visit to the US, Prime Minister Modi will interact with the Indian community at New York on September 22 and hold other engagements that will deepen cultural and economic ties between India and the global diaspora. He is also going to meet some CEOs of US-based companies, discussing opportunities for cooperation in areas like AI, quantum computing, semiconductors, and biotechnology, which would indicate India’s increasing intentions to seek emerging technologies.
In addition to those interactions, he is also expected to meet with key thought leaders and other key stakeholders engaged in the India-US bilateral and strengthen cooperation between the two countries.
PM Modi
Wants to emerge stronger in defining multilateral platforms like the Quad and the UN while boosting India’s technological, diplomatic, and economic interests by this visit.
