In the play-off for fourth place of the ICC Women’s U-19 T20 World Cup held in Kuala Lumpur, Pakistan handed Samoa a comprehensive victory through a 52-run win. Starting bat first and scoring 136/8, Pakistan mainly got contributions from Maham Anees with 28 and Fatima Khan with 25. For Samoa, it was Norah Salima who stood out with three wickets for 20 runs.
The star of the show was the young pacer of Pakistan, Haniah Ahmer, who took 4/20, leaving Samoa’s batting in tatters. Quratulain Ahsen also had two scalps for just 13 runs while Fatima Khan had 2/19 to send bowled Samoa at just 84 runs in 18.5 overs.
Low-scoring game in Nepal that beat Malaysia:
Meanwhile, Nepal won the match by seven wickets against Malaysia in a low-scoring match. Malaysia’s innings collapsed after losing their first wicket on the very first ball. Skipper Puja Mahato’s excellent bowling (4/9) and Rachana Chaudhary’s impressive figures (3/5) helped Nepal bowl Malaysia out for just 45 runs.
In response, Nepal chased down the target quite easily, reaching 47/3 in 11 overs. Mahato, who with the ball proved to be most handy, proved himself with the bat as well when he scored 23 runs. Suabika Manivannan was the shining light for Malaysia, taking all three wickets of Nepal.
The Super Six match action is about to begin tomorrow.
With the play-offs now over, the Super Six stage of the tournament will kick off on Saturday. The matches include the United States against New Zealand, England against Nigeria, and South Africa against Ireland in Group 2. Australia plays the West Indies in Group 1.
Teams that will compete in Group 1 are India, Australia, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Scotland, and West Indies, and Group 2 consists of South Africa, England, USA, Nigeria, Ireland, and New Zealand. The first two teams of each group will reach the semis, with action increasing as the tournament nears its end.
