ISLAMABAD: Artificial Intelligence is increasingly being used in Pakistan for the purpose of agricultural transformation to achieve heightened productivity and protect them from uncertain weather patterns and pest infestations. This is not only a panacea for changing climates, said TenX Chief Executive Officer Qazafi Qayyum but also one that can transform industries in the rest of the developing world.
That’s not new,” Mr. Qayyum replied to the question about whether AI is about defense or high-tech industries, as it has already innovative startups helping farmers increase crop yields using technology. He underscored that Pakistani IT companies need to focus on the global market where data analytics, software engineering, and cloud services will be among the leading products from AI solutions that will really spur real growth.
He mentioned the case of a mainstream Pakistani bank that used to have over 700 branches in the country. After several mergers and acquisitions, it became challenging for that bank to efficiently maintain customer data due to fragmentations, which led to inconvenience for the customers. This was where the AI use in this bank by way of AI-driven data analytics was quite handy for them in streamlining their services as well as providing more individualized experiences for their customers.
Mr Qayyum further said that AI innovation has proved truly advantageous, both for the banks and for telecommunications, financial services manufacturing sectors, and the government. He wanted the local IT firms to benefit the most from these opportunities and contribute toward the country’s IT exports by raising the industry standards, as well.
This transition of Pakistan toward AI is, therefore, a clarion call to embrace the move toward technological leaps to keep pace with challenges posed by global business, especially in an ever-changing digital economy.
