Vinhedo: Brazilian rescue teams retrieved the bodies of all 62 victims from the wreckage of a devastating plane crash near São Paulo on Friday. The aircraft, an ATR-72 turboprop flown by regional carrier Voepass, was flying from Cascavel to São Paulo when it crashed into a residential area in the town of Vinhedo, killing all passengers and crew on board.
Of the victims, 34 were male and 28 female, while the bodies of the pilot and co-pilot had already been identified earlier in the day. The passenger remains will be taken to São Paulo’s police morgue, where attempts will be made to identify them by various methods, including DNA samples, seat assignments, and personal belongings.
The Venezuelan dead included a 4-year-old boy and his mother and his grandmother en route to eventually reach Colombians.
The police have recovered the “black box” of the plane, with all the key voice records and data concerning the flight, currently under analysis by Cenipa, the Brazilian center to investigate aviation accidents.
The plane had crashed into a residential area, but no ground injuries were reported. The plane lost the radar contact at 1:22 p.m. local time – just minutes before the crash, and the pilots didn’t report any emergencies or bad weather conditions.
