ICC Meeting Delayed
The much-awaited ICC meeting over the Champions Trophy has been delayed, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has confirmed. The tournament is scheduled to be held in Pakistan from February 19 to March 9. The tournament is yet to get a green signal from the ICC as the bilateral tensions between Pakistan and India continue.
Hybrid Model Proposal Rejected
The PCB suggested a hybrid model in which India would play its matches at neutral venues while the remaining part of the tournament will be played in Pakistan. The BCCI rejected that proposal, making things worse.
Political Factors Influencing Negotiations
The BCCI has been following the Indian government’s policy, which bars bilateral cricketing engagement with Pakistan. The deadlock remains even though the PCB made positive moves, as both parties are not willing to give in on major issues.
Pressure from Broadcasters
The tournament getting closer, the broadcasters are pushing the ICC to finalize the schedule of the Champions Trophy, which is increasing the pressure on negotiations between the PCB and the BCCI.
