The Sindh Counter-Terrorism Department recently caught three alleged terrorists belonging to the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan in a raid at Karachi’s Sohrab Goth area. The three suspects-Farhad, Haji Rehman and Muhammad Sagheer-were reportedly directed by the TTP leadership to target police officers in Karachi. In pursuance of these arrests, authorities confiscated three pistols and pamphlets of extremist ideology being probed.
These arrests come in a series of increased terrorist activities across Pakistan. According to figures, in August alone, there were 59 recorded incidents, compared to 38 in the previous month, which showed a sharp rise in terrorist activities nationwide. The TTP took responsibility for June 20 shooting in Sohrab Goth which resulted in the killing of a policeman and injuring another.
Punjab also saw continued action against terrorists; in the province as well, the CTD had carried out 129 intelligence-based operations, and seven other suspects were arrested.
