The fever pitch at which the crowd is getting excited about the upcoming India vs England 2nd ODI to be played on Sunday in Cuttack, Odisha, has led the authorities to resort to security measures for crowd control. The Barabati Stadium is going to host an international cricket match after a long gap, and thousands of fans are thronging the stadium in huge numbers.
As crowds began collecting outside the Barabati Stadium much before tickets were available for sale, things became unmanageable and compelled the police to use water cannons to disperse the crowds. Fans began lining up outside the stadium from Tuesday evening, and as the offline ticket counters opened on Wednesday, the crowd rushed in uncontrollably. The Deputy Commissioner of Police, Jagmohan Meena, was also seen in a video ensuring crowd management, highlighting the importance of maintaining law and order ahead of the match.
Improved Security Measures and Preparations for the Match Day
Security in and around the stadium will be enhanced ahead of the match. The Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) has undertaken beautification and sanitation measures in the surroundings of the stadium to make the area clean and presentable to the spectators. There will be entry and exit points at four gates, with personnel to look after security as well as sanitation at these entry and exit points.
Health and Emergency Arrangements
The district’s health department will have ambulances and medical teams ready for any medical emergencies. Food safety officers will be monitoring hygiene standards at food stalls to ensure spectators are safe.
Logistical Support for Spectators
Facilitative bus arrangements are to be operated for smooth observation. This shall be done by special buses directly from key locations – Netaji Bus Terminus at Cuttack, Trishulia, and the railway station, aiming to alleviate congestion and facilitate passersby who might come to witness the match.
With extensive security measures in place, and the local authorities working actively to ensure smooth operations on the match day, the India vs England 2nd ODI in Cuttack is promising to be a thrilling spectacle for fans. The excitement is palpable, but with all the necessary measures being taken, the match should proceed without any major disruptions.
