Lebanon’s Health Ministry said an Israeli airstrike that targeted southern Lebanon on Saturday killed nine people, including a woman and her two children. Five others were wounded, two of them in critical condition.
Targeted Area: Nabatieh
The airstrike hit a place some 12 kilometers from the Israeli border in the Nabatieh area. In a statement on its Telegram channel, Israel’s military said its attack had targeted a weapons storage facility belonging to Hezbollah. Hezbollah has been fighting Israeli forces almost daily since the war between Hamas militants and Israel broke out in Gaza last October.
Fears of Broader Conflict
The exchange of fire between Hezbollah and Israeli forces, on their part, has grown apprehension of an enlarged regional war. International mediators are working pragmatically to forestall a wider escalation of the conflict through negotiations for a ceasefire in Gaza.
Regional Tensions Rise
The latest airstrike to hit Nabatieh underlines the increasingly tense conflict and the likelihood of further violence in a region of growing tension.
