Natalie Portman is opening up about finding comfort in one of the last places you’d think after her split. The star of Black Swan revealed that the first time she met Rihanna, as she was getting divorced from Benjamin Millepied, really gave her just what she needed.
After a clip of their encounter played in which Rihanna described Natalie as “one of the hottest b—hes in Hollywood forever” and exclaimed, “I finally meet you.” Natalie wiped away a pretend tear. “It was,” she said, “a pivotal moment in my life.”
The mention marked Natalie’s first public comment after finalizing the split from Benjamin Millepied in March.
The not-so-surprise-confirmation of their parting came one year later after rumors broke that Benjamin was cheating, something Natalie sidestepped carefully when she spoke with Vanity Fair back in February.
Before the late-night confirmation by her representative, Natalie had been rather tight-lipped about the breakup. But she gave some comment on her private circle when she marked her 43rd birthday in June.
“This year, on my birthday,” she captioned a June 9 Instagram post featuring photos from around the globe, “I’d like to thank my friends who consistently raise me up.
Much of this is due to the sheer normality of her friendships. “While I have friends in the entertainment industry, many are not, and our gatherings don’t revolve around industry events. Instead, we have dinners at home in the backyard.”
Natalie Portman and Benjamin Millepied met on the set of Black Swan in 2009. She was smitten with the ballet dancer, but the relationship trotted along sometimes.
In December 2010, Natalie declared their engagement and also revealed the news of their parenthood. By February 2011, she picked up the Best Actress from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences while pregnant.
