ISLAMABAD: More shocking details have surfaced in a continued probe into the ties of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan and former spy master Lieutenant General (retd) Faiz Hameed. Sources told The Express Tribune that General Hameed continued to be in secret contact with Imran Khan through the latter’s wife, Bushra Bibi.
Allegations of Manipulation Through Spiritual Claims
It has now emerged that Hameed allegedly shared information with Bushra Bibi, who, in turn, would relay it to Imran Khan as divine inspiration. Later on, when the information proved correct, it is believed to have further cemented Khan’s faith in his wife’s spirituality, whereas, as a matter of fact, it was Hameed who had shared the intelligence.
Faiz Hameed Arrested; New Evidence Comes to Fore
The investigation received a serious jolt after the arrest of the former ISI chief. It was learnt that an iPhone recovered from Chakwal had details related to Hameed’s liaison with Imran Khan. Now, there is a hint that Bushra Bibi has lost her patience, according to a report by The Express Tribune. She might seek leniency on the grounds of cooperating with the law and giving testimony in return for amnesty for herself and her close aide Farah Gogi.
Imran Khan’s Response to Hameed’s Arrest
The latest turn of events seems to have little effect on Imran Khan as he does not consider the arrest of General Faiz Hameed a threat to his ambitions. In an informal discussion with reporters during his stint at the Adiala Jail, Khan shared that he is not threatened, citing that if he were threatened, he would never have asked for a judicial commission.
Army to Try Faiz Hameed
On August 12, the military of Pakistan announced that General Hameed was arrested for “multiple violations” under the Army Act after his retirement in December 2022. The military confirmed that a process under the Field General Court Martial has been initiated and Hameed is currently in military custody.
According to Geo News, the case against the former chief of the Inter-Services Intelligence was based on a petition filed by a land development company, Top City, that claimed Hameed and his brother “obtained a number of plots through illegitimate means and blackmailed” its owner. This is in line with orders from Pakistan’s Supreme Court for the registration of the case in 2023.
