Islamabad, Pakistan – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim met in Islamabad yesterday to reaffirm commitment towards strengthening bilateral cooperation and discussing mutual interests, it has been reported by Radio Pakistan.
Prime Minister Ibrahim was reported to have arrived in Islamabad on Wednesday night at the invitation of Prime Minister Sharif for a three-day official visit. The subjects discussed before him ranged from regional and international issues facing the Muslim community to how better cooperation in different sectors could be better sought.
The leaders drew particular attention to the fact that mechanisms to be finalized at the meeting must work effectively and lead to successful outcomes. PM Ibrahim praised the country’s ongoing engagement with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, to which Pakistan is a Sectoral Dialogue Partner. PM Sharif hailed the nation of Malaysia for taking over the leadership of ASEAN during the year 2025. He demanded enhancement of relationship between Pakistan and the South Asian bloc.
He reiterated his commitment to mutually beneficial partnerships by saying that the historical cooperation between Pakistan and Malaysia was worthwhile enough to carry on. Underlining dialogue and exchanges of visits, of course, the role of the Joint Ministerial Commission in enhancing future engagement.
Ahead of the meeting, PM Shehbaz said he was eagerly awaiting talks for the strengthening of bilateral ties and for deeper cooperation. On X/Twitter, he wrote that the visit “underlines our shared commitment to peace, prosperity, and regional development.”.
