Pakistan’s baseball team dominated a host of UAE 12-1 in the championship match of the inaugural Baseball United Arab Classic on Sunday. It remained undefeated throughout the tournament, which is no mean feat for a country where baseball is not widely played.
The event was held at the Baseball United Ballpark at The Sevens in Dubai, and attracted nine different nations. Pakistan started with an easy 10-0 win over Bangladesh, and on Friday edged the UAE 10-3. Then Pakistan went on to grab commanding wins versus India 12-0 and Afghanistan 17-3 to secure its place in the semi-finals.
Pakistan dominated it all the way through to the ultimate performances, finally culminating into the 12-1 final. Muhammad Hussain was declared the MVP for the tournament, owing to outstanding contributions in making Pakistan successful.
Pakistan’s Envoy to the UAE, Ambassador Faisal Niaz Tirmizi said congratulating the team, “This victory in such a sport in which Pakistan never used to perform well, really spoke about Pakistan’s sporting talent and commitment. This really had an impact on strengthening Pakistan’s sports image globally.”.
The last match was witnessed by Consul General Hussain Muhammad, while other diplomats came from the Pakistani consulate in Dubai. In celebration, he proudly told his counterparts about the guys’ hard work and dedication, which had guaranteed them a championship triumph.
Kash Shaikh, chairman and CEO of Baseball United, praised the Pakistan team as well. “This was the largest and most competitive baseball tournament in the region’s history, said Shaikh. “The Pakistan team demonstrated they are not only one of Asia’s top teams but are ready to compete with the best baseball nations globally.”
Founded in 2022, Baseball United is the first professional baseball league designed for the Middle East and the Subcontinent. For this league, this tournament was a very significant stepping milestone.
