Dame Maggie Smith, Oscar winner and Harry Potter and Downton Abbey fame, has died peacefully in hospital. According to her family, she passed away peacefully on September 27th, 2024, in the early morning hours, surrounded by friends and family.
Her sons Toby Stephens and Chris Larkin gave an announcement of her death, thanking the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital for treating her in her final days.
Maggie Smith was a very private person, who left behind the heritage of iconic performances in the media, on film, television, and stage. She received the Oscar for one of her most famous performances within the films The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie and California Suite.
The iconic Professor Minerva McGonagall from Harry Potter and the menacing Violet Crawley of Downton Abbey cemented her beloved status in the entertainment world. She lives behind two sons and five grandchildren.
