Khan Yunis: Over the past four days, more than 180,000 Palestinians have fled intense fighting around the southern Gaza city of Khan Yunis, as reported by the United Nations on Friday. This mass displacement is a result of an Israeli operation focused on recovering the bodies of captives in the area.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) highlighted that “intensified hostilities” in the Khan Yunis region have caused “new waves of internal displacement across Gaza,” more than nine months into the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas.

Evacuations and Military Operations

The Israeli military issued an evacuation order for parts of the southern city on Monday, stating that its forces would “forcefully operate” in the area, including a zone previously declared safe for humanitarian purposes.

Recovery of Captives’ Bodies

On Wednesday, Israeli forces reported recovering the bodies of five captives who were taken during Hamas’s October 7 attack, which marked the start of the current war.

Continued Fighting and Casualties

Nasser Hospital confirmed that it had received 26 bodies from the conflict area.

Casualties from October 7 Attack

The October 7 attack on southern Israel resulted in 1,197 deaths, mostly civilians, according to an AFP tally based on official Israeli figures.
