A 49-run win by the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method in the rain-affected fifth and final One-Day International handed Australia a three-two series victory over England in Bristol on Sunday.

England, driven by Ben Duckett’s hundred, made a sound 309 in their innings. Duckett scored 107, helping himself along with Harry Brook, who had 72, in a big 132-run third-wicket stand. But England lost their last eight wickets for a mere 107 runs once Head’s part-time spin had the tail, smashing it over, claiming four wickets for 28 runs. England collapsed from 202-2.

Australia made a strong chase, and in an impromptu start,

Matthew Short and Travis Head put up an opening partnership of 78 runs in just over seven overs. Short smashed 58 off 23 balls, and Head added 31. Rain play had to be abandoned at 165-2 from 20.4 overs when Australia were well ahead of the DLS target of 125.

This took the game into a point where it was handed over to Australia considering the interrupted rain, as they were ahead of the host significantly on the DLS method.

The thrilling series completed with both teams recording great outings, and Australia got the upper hand of the game, winning the series 3-2.
