Karachi, Pakistan – China’s Consul General Yang Yundong reaffirmed Wednesday in Karachi his country’s unconditional commitment to Pakistan’s war against terror and emphasized improved security to protect Chinese citizens, projects, and institutions here.
Speaking at a media briefing in Karachi on Wednesday, the Consul General reminded the people about the everlasting “ironclad friendship” between the two countries and the strategic value of their relationship.
Bilateral talks between the two nations have now placed security collaboration at the forefront of discussion, given the increased frequency of attacks targeting Chinese nationals working on China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects. Yang urged the Pakistani government to implement “targeted security measures” to address these threats, stressing that China respects Pakistan’s sovereignty in addressing security challenges.
As she observed, “China and Pakistan share a mutual commitment to ensuring the safety of citizens and infrastructure integral to our shared development goals.”
Strengthening CPEC and Economic Ties
The Consul General underlined the strategic importance of the CPEC, which is going to play a vital role in economic growth and regional connectivity. He announced plans to speed up the development of major infrastructure projects, such as railways, highways, and ports. Key initiatives include the Karachi-Hyderabad motorway and the Karakoram Highway (Raikot-Thakot) realignment project, with efforts underway to secure sustainable financing and early execution.
The development of Gwadar Port remains at the top of the agenda, with projects to improve water and power supply, boost industrial zone development, and improve cargo connectivity. “The New Gwadar International Airport project, assisted by China, has been completed, marking the tangible progress of our cooperation,” Yang noted.
Economic Cooperation Diversification
China and Pakistan are taking cooperation beyond infrastructure, with the key focus areas being agriculture, mining, information technology, energy, and trade. Chinese firms are encouraged to invest in Pakistan’s Special Economic Zones. Socio-economic projects under the CPEC framework will improve healthcare, education, climate resilience, and disaster prevention.
“China will continue to support Pakistan’s socio-economic development, so that benefits are shared among all communities and regions,” Yang added.
China’s Role in Global Peace and Development
The Consul General reemphasized that China is still a peace-loving country, committed to harmonious coexistence. He rejected the idea of hegemonic ambitions, saying that China aims to build partnerships based on mutual respect and shared prosperity.
Yang pointed to the successes of the BRI, which has sparked $1 trillion in worldwide investments and opened vast economic opportunities for partner countries. “The BRI is an accelerator of global cooperation and poverty alleviation, the epitome of China’s leadership in sustainable development,” he said.
As Pakistan and China move through the changing landscape of the world, their cooperation remains dynamic, based on mutual respect and common goals. Yang reaffirmed China’s support for Pakistan’s aspirations, concluding, “Together, we will achieve high-quality development and contribute to regional stability and prosperity.”
