A new documentary titled Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery recently identified Satoshi Nakamoto, the controversial mastermind behind Bitcoin, as being Canadian crypto expert Peter Todd. An online frenzy greets the revelation-the dubious, indeed quite frantic claim has now come from none other than Peter Todd himself, who has dismissed the identification as “ludicrous.”

Creater of the film Cullen Hoback,

Who believes that he could present reasonable evidence to relate Todd to the Bitcoin invention. He gives one instance: the forum post made by Todd which appears to be a continuation of the earlier discussion raised by Nakamoto. Then, Hoback mentions Todd’s declaration of destroying a high amount of Bitcoin on purpose which may link him to Satoshi’s stash of the original Bitcoin. Currently, this reserve, equating to a little over 1.1 million bitcoins, would be worth roughly $69 billion and make Satoshi a member of the world’s richest people.

Todd has consistently denied the position of Satoshi,

And his posting history and activities within the first few years of Bitcoin do not lend any credibility to the claim. Todd stated on X, “I am not Satoshi Nakamoto,” with further argumentation stating he “was too busy with school and work.”.

This is coming off other claims that emerged about Satoshi’s identity. Of most recent significance, a 2014 Newsweek article reported the creator to be Dorian Nakamoto, a 64-year-old Japanese-American man. He denied any such connection. There’s also been Australian computer scientist Craig Wright who says he is Satoshi. The Bitcoin community has taken great skepticism with him and was eventually ruled by a UK High Court judge not to be Satoshi based on substantial evidence.

The mystery of Satoshi’s identity persists, and most people in the crypto community like it that way. Another Satoshi candidate, one of the core developers, Adam Black, summed up this feeling well by saying, “No one knows who Satoshi is. And that’s a good thing.”

Soon after the official release date of the documentary, more than $44 million was reportedly bet on the crypto betting platform Polymarket concerning who Satoshi is, and this represents an exact reflection of public interest in solving this riddle.
