In a sad turn of events, a wrong-way crash in Manhattan killed 38-year-old Kirk Walker just one day before his wedding. Walker, who had been out celebrating his bachelor party, was tragically killed along with his cousin, Rob McLaurin, 40, after their car was hit head-on by a pickup truck going the wrong way.
The Tragic Accident
The accident happened on Saturday night and sent shockwaves around the community. The pickup truck ran into the vehicle carrying Walker and McLaurin, thus fatally injuring the two men. They were admitted to Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, where they later succumbed to their injuries. The driver of the vehicle that caused the collision ran away on foot and his capture is yet to be made. A passenger present in the car was hurt and is being treated at a nearby hospital.
Fiancée’s Heartbreak and Plea for Justice
Kirk Walker’s fiancée, Shauntea Weaver, expressed sadness over losing her husband-to-be. What was to be one of the happiest moments in her life has now become one of the worst unimaginable times of her life. “I’m supposed to be in my wedding dress right now-not in mourning. I feel like this is a TV show, and I’m going to wake up any minute and go back to my real life,” she related to The New York Post.
The two were set to get married in a few hours from the time of the accident at the Royal Manor, Garfield, New Jersey. Now, Ms. Weaver is focused on justice for her fiancé and his cousin. “They need to pay for killing two innocent people,” she firmly said, vowing justice because such loss of life was uncalled for.
Legacy building
His name is Kirk Walker, 47, a father of three children, who had managed, on the other hand, to become both a good family man and an industrious entrepreneur. Together with his fiancée, he had put up a successful rent-a-car business. People also admired him for being giving and willing to work hard. With his tragic passing, he has created a void that no one else can fill, especially his children, who now face the task of understanding the grief brought about by the loss of their loving father.
Authorities investigating the Case
The police are still working on the case. DNA at the scene may lead to the identity of the driver who ran from the scene. Ms. Weaver still has hope for the delivery of justice and accountability of the perpetrators of this tragic accident.
In Search of Closure
As this investigation continues to unfold, the community rallies around Ms. Weaver and the grieving families to try and help them through this extremely troubled time in their lives. Nothing will bring these lost lives back, but the pursuit of justice does give a small measure of solace to those trying to navigate through the aftermath of this tragic event.
