DOHA: The Palestinian Islamist group Hamas said on Thursday a truce in Gaza depended on the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from the territory as it renewed truce negotiations in Doha, Qatar.

Hamas Sets Terms for Truce

Following the talks, Hamas official Hossam Badran stressed: “What is required is an agreement that can achieve comprehensive ceasefire, complete withdrawal from Gaza Strip, and return of the displaced persons.” The uncompromising attitude of the group points out the huge obstacles toward permanent peace.

Gaza Conflict Toll and Ongoing Negotiations

The conflict between Israeli forces and Hamas has claimed more than 40,000 lives in Gaza since the hostilities started. While negotiations over ceasefires are still ongoing, the humanitarian situation looks grim in this region because many of its populations have been displaced.

International Response and Diplomatic Efforts

The global powers continue to monitor the situation closely, urging both parties to find a peaceful resolution. The results of the talks in Doha will be critical for the next steps toward ending the hostilities.
