Hamas called on US, Qatari, and Egyptian mediators to expedite the actualization of a ceasefire plan for Gaza as part of US President Joe Biden’s proposal. The Palestinian movement repeated that what is required is the implementation of this plan, rather than new discussions or proposals.
Negotiations Scheduled
Mediators have scheduled another round of negotiations between Israel and Hamas for Thursday. The meeting will try and alleviate friction points with the hope of consolidating a lasting ceasefire.
Context and Objectives
The move by Hamas reflects months of frustration over the slow pace of progress on that plan to implement the proposed ceasefire. In insisting on a focus on executing Biden’s plan, the group is pushing for urgency on the conflict’s resolution and humanitarian needs in Gaza.
