Southport, England — A stabbing in the town of Southport, near Liverpool on Monday, has reportedly left ‘at least eight people wounded, including children,’ according to the emergency services. Police said armed officers arrested a man and recovered a knife in the response to the ‘ongoing incident’ at the residential property.

Multiple Casualties and Emergency Response

The North West Ambulance Service said eight patients with serious injuries from stab wounds went to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, Aintree University Hospital and Southport and Formby Hospital.

Alder Hey Children’s Hospital declared a major incident following the attack.

Eyewitness Accounts

It sounded as if several young girls were stabbed,” said Colin Parry, who runs a local business and was one of the group calling police. Bare Varathan, another shopkeeper nearby, said he witnessed “seven to 10 kids” looking “injured, bleeding”. He said the youngsters appeared stabbed.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer said it was a “horrific and deeply shocking incident,” stated his concern on X (formerly Twitter), and offered his thoughts to those caught up.

Community Response

This incident occurred in a tranquil, leafy suburb of Southport, where locals are seriously concerned. One AFP reporter at the scene saw a small convoy of cars with their curtains drawn out of the cordon and into a nearby street.

“It’s not what you expect to see in Southport,” said one neighbor, who asked that her name not be published.
