Melania Trump recently came out bravely as an abortion rights advocate in her forthcoming memoir-an oddly stark contrast from her husband, Donald Trump’s anti-abortion policies. In excerpts released from the memoir, she reminds readers that women should have a say in their bodily choices without the government intervening in the same and that these rights cannot be restricted, which is tantamount to having little or no control over one’s body.
This is in contrast to Donald Trump’s involvement in the appointment of Supreme Court justices, whose resultant rulings overturned Roe v. Wade, and thus many states made strict abortion laws. Kamala Harris’s campaign reacted to Melania’s statement by pointing out the contradictions the Trump family has on such a crucial matter as that, blaming Donald Trump for policies devastating the rights of women to their health choice.
Melania’s pro-choice position has taken flak from anti-abortion activists who, once again, feel that the time for her book release given the prevailing election campaign is problematic since this is an important central issue. Nevertheless, Melania has also defended herself in her own right as an advocate for individual freedoms-an important right she believes that all women should have.
