The heavy rains that have continued to cause flooding have killed more than 60 people in Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana, Indian authorities reported on Monday. Widespread rescues were required by the situation at hand, including deploying the Indian Army in the most affected regions.
Gujarat Faces Devastation: The worst hit by nature’s fury has been Gujarat, as gigantic regions of the state have been facing despairing conditions since August 27 due to continuous flooding. Troops of the Indian Army have been called in for the rescue operations, who, with special equipment, maneuver themselves and save the residents stranded among the overflow of water.
The infrastructural network of the state has been badly affected, it has come under water and even the channel of communication is disrupted. The members of the emergency team have tirelessly been trying to restore the vital services and give respite to the affected.
Andhra Pradesh and Telangana: In Andhra Pradesh, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu confirmed 10 deaths due to the flooding. Naidu promised to speed up the relief work and called upon the affected people to be brave in these calamitous times. “I wish the affected people to be brave,” he said and sought to assure them of all support from the government.
Telangana has also been badly hit with nine deaths reported. The Chief Minister, Revanth Reddy, announced a package of 500,000 Indian Rupees (about $5,960) in financial assistance for the families whose members died from the floods. He has also called on the federal government to declare the disaster a “national calamity,” underlining the extent of the damages and coordinated relief required.
National and Political Response: Deadly floods drew a response from the country’s top political class. Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi condoled the loss of lives and asked Congress leaders and workers to mobilize all resources to help ongoing relief and rescue efforts in the flood-affected regions. “I urge Congress leaders and workers to mobilize all available resources to support the ongoing relief and rescue efforts,” wrote Gandhi on X.
It is with India reeling under these devastating floods that rescue operations and immediate relief remain in the foreground. The Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana areas remain closely monitored as efforts are made towards restoring normalcy without any further loss of life.
