Multan, October 18 2024: Pakistan, wiping out a 138 runs deficit from England on day one, crushed the latter by 152 runs in the second Test at Multan, levelled the three-match series at 1-1. The hosts, set a target of 297 runs by the visitors and the latter could only score 144 runs till lunch time on day four as Pakistan’s spin attack proved too much for them.
The Pakistani team, however, were more impressive with a very potent batting. It posted 366 in their first innings where Ghulam laid the foundation with a good 118. The English side was able to score only 291 runs, for which Duckett scored a hundred, scoring 114. The Pakistani spinners clearly ruled the game. In the second innings, Noman Ali took eight wickets for 46 and had as many as 11 wickets in the match while Sajid Khan took nine in all.
It was historic, in the sense that it marked the intent to be only the seventh instance in Test history where two bowlers shared all 20 wickets of the match since 1972. England’s innings failed miserably in the last session, where 64/2 deteriorated into all out at 144 as the opposition came up heavy in their resistance against the spin that rules the conditions.
The series will conclude with the third Test, which is going to start from Thursday, 24 October in Rawalpindi. Now, the last match will be played according to how the pitch conditions play there, with both teams seeking a win of the series.
