The Pentagon denied charges made by the U.S. Congressman Jeff Van Drew that drones from Iran allegedly came from a “mothership” off the East Coast. Pentagon spokeswoman Sabrina Singh said the charge is without merit since there has been no evidence found to support accusations of foreign intervention or of threats to U.S. military facilities posed by drones, as none have been shot down.

New Jersey Drone Sightings Probe

There have been reported drone activities over Morris County, New Jersey, since November 18. The FAA put in place some restrictions over sensitive sites, including Picatinny Arsenal and the Trump National Golf Club Bedminster. The FBI, in collaboration with state authorities, maintained the investigation and encouraged the public to report any additional activity.

Growing Anxiety about Drone Proliferation

Although the sightings were reportedly not related to foreign threats, the increasing use of drones both for surveillance and attack does raise concerns. US politicians, including Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries, clamored for more transparency within the investigation. The White House, including President Biden is closely following the situation and closely working with agencies like DHS and FBI.

Security and Transparency Measures

The FBI continues tracking the activity and reassured the public that there were no threats to U.S. installations. The recent incidents clearly show the increasing security risks posed by drones, in particular, regarding potential misuse for espionage or attacks. Further updates are in line with the continuation of investigations.
