Some of the most thrilling performances were witnessed in ice skating and ice hockey at the Khelo India Winter Games. On the third day of the competition, Telangana’s Pranav Madav Surapaneni won the state’s second gold in the men’s 500m short track skating event. A thrilling ice hockey match between the Indian Army and ITBP also stole the limelight, as ITBP emerged victorious in a dramatic 3-1 win.
Ice Skating: Telangana heads the medal tally
Pranav Surapaneni won the men’s 500m short track gold with a time of 56.86 seconds. The second and third places were taken by Samrudh SD of Karnataka and Sumit Tapkir of Maharashtra, respectively. With two gold medals, Telangana stood at the top of the medal tally, followed by Maharashtra and Karnataka. The event saw some spectacular performances, including Ishaan Darvekar of Maharashtra winning the gold in the 1000m short track event.
Thrilling Ice Hockey Match: ITBP Shocks Army
Meanwhile, the Indian Army/ITBP ice hockey league match gobbled up almost all the 5000 capacity of the NDS sports complex. Mohammed Ismail of ITBP hit the ice first and equalised in no time through Tsewang Dorjey of the Army. The ITBP, however, shone brighter during the third period. Stanzin Mingure hit two goals to see the ITBP win 3-1 over the Army. It was the first loss for the Army in the Games and ITBP’s strategy and perseverance had won them a game they would never forget.
Ladakh’s Success in Long Track Skating
Ladakh created a splash at the Gupuks Pond, as Shabana Zara and Tasniya Shamim clinched gold and silver in the women’s 1000m long track event. This was the first gold for Shabana at the Khelo India Winter Games, where she had competed last year.
The Khelo India Winter Games have been continuing to present fresh talent in ice skating and ice hockey. Telangana leads the medal tally as competition is tough, with more records being set and teams vying for top honors.
