Sri Lanka cricketer Praveen Jayawickrama has been suspended by the International Cricket Council after he admitted breaching his Anti-Corruption Code by failing to report a corrupt approach and then deleting communications relating to an investigation.
The ICC charged Jayawickrama in August 2024 for attempting to influence the performances of fellow players on occasions he was approached for purposes of match-fixing attempts. He has admitted to the breaches. The one-year suspension entails a six month suspension period, implying that he could return to cricket after serving six months of the ban if no other breaches occur during that time.
Jayawickrama, who batted for Sri Lanka as recently as last June-the same month he marked his Test debut with 11 wickets against Bangladesh-had been banned from taking part in all forms of cricket, international and domestic.
