RAWALPINDI: As many as 87 new dengue patients reported at government hospitals in the city and cantonment areas of Rawalpindi on Saturday, with the city witnessing a steady rise in the disease. The number of admitted dengue patients in three major hospitals,
Holy Family Hospital (HFH), Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH), and District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ) is standing at 220 on the said day. Fifty-two patients were discharged after treatment on the same day.
According to data provided by hospitals, Holy Family Hospital Satellite Town has 72 dengue patients while 40 patients are in Benazir Bhutto Hospital on Murree Road; Raja Bazaar Rawalpindi Teaching Hospital has 19 dengue patients, while Fauji Foundation Hospital has 26, and 63 dengue patients are admitted in private hospitals.
As many as 5,652 dengue patients have been reported at the three government hospitals this season. Unfortunately, 11 deaths have been recorded from the dengue virus in these hospitals.
HFH officials said 200 patients visited the outdoor patients department and 72 of them were confirmed dengue cases who were being treated. “The number of patients in dengue wards was on a rise very quickly,” said a senior doctor at BBH.
He further mentioned that at BBH, more than 35% of the patients have been recorded since Islamabad while at HFH it was around 40%. Cases started showing up in the first week of September and this trend is still on the rise.
As per the observation of Dr. Arif Arbab Niazi who is the CEO of District Health Authority, he said that every emergency measure is being pursued strictly to suppress this outbreak.
He said that Chak Jalaldin even reported just 70 new cases in one report, and still moving on, cleaning operations are arranged by RWMC, besides, the Healthcare Commission even trains its staff for dengue. In addition, fogging, spraying, and larvae inspections door-to-door by dedicated teams in regards to dengue issues are being carried out.
So, provincial health authorities are also keenly monitoring the scenario with daily uploads of dengue reports to ensure timely intervention.
The authorities also urge residents in view of such peak dengue transmission periods to take preventive measures through elimination of breeding sites and proper sanitation.
