Late Thursday night, a hotel fire broke out in Bucheon, South Korea, leaving seven people dead and twelve injured. In this nine-story hotel, about 25 kilometers west of Seoul, the fire had originated from one of its rooms.
Hotel Fire Cause Under Investigation
It remains unclear what caused the fire in the hotel, as announced by the interior ministry in Seoul. The fire was extinguished after about three hours by firefighters, but by this time, the large number of casualties had already occurred. Of the injuries, three are said to be in serious condition.
Hotel Guests Affected by Smoke Inhalation
The nine-story hotel houses 64 rooms and had 27 guests at the time of the outbreak of the hotel fire. The fire did not spread much across the complex, but the smoke caused by the fire resulted in numerous deaths and injuries, according to Seoul’s Yonhap news agency.
Recent Fire Incidents in South Korea
This hotel fire comes after a major incident in June, in which 23 people died as a result of a fire at a South Korean lithium battery plant. That was one of the country’s worst industrial disasters in recent times and brought into focus concerns about fire safety in South Korea.
