The US has sent a stern warning to Israel, making clear that unless improvement is made concerning the humanitarian situation in Gaza, military aid may be withheld. Israeli operations persist in Gaza following a war against Hamas started a year ago. US. In a letter to Israeli officials, the Secretaries of State Antony Blinken and Defense Lloyd Austin condemned the situation in Gaza, which is degrading with more violence. These documents have presented Israel with a set of demands that include allowing at least 350 trucks laden with aid to enter Gaza every day, implementing ceasefires to allow relief supplies to enter Gaza, and rescinding evacuation orders for Palestinian civilians where there is no operational necessity.
It also quoted Section 620i of the United States Foreign Assistance Act, which prohibits military assistance to any country known to be impeding US humanitarian aid, a thinly veiled threat that failure to comply will impact US aid. Despite this, however, the Biden administration has thus far refused to backpedal on its military aid to Israel and has just publicly stated its intentions to deploy high-tech missile systems into Israel.
This warning comes amidst growing home-state pressure on the United States with some legislators and public protests demanding stricter conditions on U.S. aid to Israel, even including the humanitarian crisis in Gaza
