Washington – The aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, along with its strike group of destroyers, has entered the Middle East, the U.S. military said on Wednesday. USS Abraham Lincoln’s entry comes after U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin ordered the carrier to accelerate its transit to the region after a significant rise in American naval presence was clearly seen while there had been increased regional tensions.
USS Abraham Lincoln arrives in the Middle East to join USS Theodore Roosevelt
The arrival of the USS Abraham Lincoln brings to two the total number of U.S. aircraft carriers in the region for a short period, ahead of its replacement for the USS Theodore Roosevelt. This move comes at a time when very serious concerns about possible regional wars have increased as a result of a string of high-profile assassinations blamed on Israel.
Tensions have been running particularly high following vows of retaliation by Hezbollah and Iran for the twin assassinations blamed on Israel last month.
Tensions Rise After Assassinations
The arrival of the USS Abraham Lincoln in the Middle East now underlines American determination to keep a strong military presence in this highly volatile region. As the situation continues to deteriorate, this deployment of the carrier strike group acts almost as a prudent warning-a warning signaling that America is not abandoning its interests and allies to the coming tide of regional turmoil.
