The White House condemned on Saturday the missile strike against a Druze village in northern Israel as “horrific,” which killed 11 people, including children, on a soccer pitch.
Authorities in Israel attributed the attack to Hezbollah and promised to retaliate. However, in this case, responsibility was out of place.
White House Summary
“Our commitment to Israel’s security remains ironclad and unwavering — against all Iranian-backed terrorist groups, including Lebanese Hezbollah,” a White House National Security Council spokesperson said in a statement.
Background
People have died, including children, on the soccer pitch in the village of Druze due to the missile strike. The act has raised tension in the area, as Israel’s authorities blamed Hezbollah for the strike. In retaliation, Hezbollah dismissed being behind the strike.
Hezbollah Dismisses Being Behind the Strike
Hezbollah, which has a large presence in Lebanon and has fought several cross-border skirmishes with Israel, has denied any role in the missile attack. The group is not new to hostilities with Israel, especially during variants of tense times in the region.
US Support for Israel
The White House reiterated its commitment to Israel, unwavering on security issues of Iranian proxy terrorist groups, like Hezbollah. It has elaborated on how the United States will see to it that Israel can take care of itself and its right to defend its people against terrorist provocations.
Regional Stability
Previous to that, the missile attacks have already strained that region, as the blame will fall into Hezbollah’s hands. The events are being closely monitored by the international community since any further escalation could have a domino effect on peace and security in the Middle East.
The missile attack against the Druze village in northern Israel indeed stirred the fierce response of the White House, pointing to increased tensions between Israel and Hezbollah. While investigations are in progress, this underlines the precarious security situation in the region and the chance of more violence.
